RYLA was such an empowering and inspiring experience, but in the end it asks a question of you…one that only you can answer. You will walk away with the ability to challenge yourself to be a leader to yourself and those around you; to challenge yourself to make the world around you better. Will YOU be the leader that is needed?
RYLA for me was an amazing experience. I showed up to RYLA having little idea of what to expect or what I was even there for. I am so glad that I took the leap and attended. The most empowering and growth-based week I have ever been to, I made friends, learned about myself, and learned about the world and how it works in ways that I never would have outside of RYLA. Being an organic location and a location that the committee makes a place that is a unique opportunity to try new things and stretch your boundaries well past your comfort level was a truly unique experience that I would hope anyone thinking they want to go should absolutely go.
RYLA is more than a leadership retreat, it’s the experience of a lifetime. Not only did I learn professional skills hat have carried on into my career, but I experienced self growth. Thanks to RYLA, I have my dream job and fine tuned my personal goals. I highly recommend this program!
Before RYLA I didn’t feel like myself and was doubtful of my path in life. My time at RYLA allowed me to focus on my goals and aspirations. It helped me figure out what I wanted my purpose in life to be and motivated me to journey towards that. I left RYLA feeling more like my true self, with my passions reignited and confident of my life’s path. I am excited to return as a CGF this year to help guide others through their own amazing RYLA experience!
College taught me what I like to do, but it didn’t teach me who I wanted to be. RYLA showed me that missing piece. It challenged me to step up and do something greater than what my professional career required and gave me the skills to achieve my vision. The program showed me what real success, service leadership, feels like.
Aside from the invaluable professional skills, what I benefitted from most at RYLA was learning how to be a better person. Since participating in 2011, I have become more grateful and appreciative. I understand personalities and why people behave the way they do, which has helped me become less judgmental. The day after RYLA ended I started to do things I never thought about doing before, like writing thank you cards, listing goals I want to accomplish in life, and saving for retirement. It has changed my life.
RYLA is sold as a leadership retreat, but the content you get throughout the week is so much more. The tools I was given are indispensable and have been key in obtaining my career goal. I can honestly say that I wouldn’t have the job of my dreams without having gone to RYLA. In addition, RYLA introduced me to the world of Rotary, which has opened up so many leadership opportunities for me.
“RYLA is a truly life changing experience”. Sounds cheesy, right? I thought the same thing when I was first given the opportunity to participate. Well the joke was on me. “Life changing” is not only accurate, but an understatement. RYLA shaped me in ways that are hard to describe, across all aspects of my personal and professional life. One week will change your outlook on life.
Two years out of college, I had a vague idea of what my life goals were but no real plan. RYLA changed that. The ability to bounce ideas off peers who were also searching for a way to improve themselves reminded me of the best parts of college, while learning valuable lessons about work/life balance. I left RYLA a stronger, more confident person, with many new friends and a positive outlook on my future.
